The Bunny Quilt

"HELLO", the first thing these parents will soon be saying to their new baby. The soon-to-be first time parents are long-time friends. We've been friends since junior high, and it still blows my mind that we are all at the age to be having children! When did we all become adults old enough? Ha! Anyways, these two are great. They've been together since junior high, and married during their final year of college. When I found out they were expecting I was so excited for them. Even though we haven't seen each other in a long time, I still felt like I needed to make them something for the baby! They are keeping the sex a surprise, which I love, and so this quilt needed to be neutral enough but still compliment their nursery which featured yellows, greys, and bunnies! After spotting The Littlest from Art Gallery Fabrics, I knew it would be perfect. The fabric I wanted to use most was the Furry Tales in Minty, and then use many others to help compliment its colors.

I also felt this baby sized quilt would be the perfect time to try something new. Many of my quilts I've made before feature simple squares and stripes, which I love, but I wanted a challenge. While looking for inspiration I kept being drawn to half-square triangles and the cool effects they could have on a layout. So, I went with that. It definitely is not perfect, but I'm excited to have been able to make something completely different than anything I've done before! Ok, enough words. . .time for photos!

(thanks to my bf for holding it up for me!)

The contrast between the light and dark fabrics is my absolute favorite part! The design keeps the quilt from becoming too baby-ish, but the fabrics make it sweet enough for any newborn.

(don't worry, I raked my yard shortly after this photo!)

I kept the quilting simple to help exaggerate the diamonds. I love simple straight-line quilting. I think it keeps things modern and understated, my favorite.

The back fabric with the front. I love the contemporary feel of it against the sweet bunny fabric. I used a binding cheat trick to finish the edges. I'm pleased with how it came out.

Overall, this quilt was a blast to make! I love the end result, and pleasantly surprised that my vision came to life. I hope that baby Gault thoroughly enjoys their quilt as much as I enjoyed making it.

HI THERE. . .

. . .and welcome to my site! I'm Stephanie, but you can call me Steph. I'm a young-ish, mid-western, creative gal who needed a place to keep all her crazy thoughts in one place. You can often find me day-dreaming, creating, laughing, and enjoying life in general.

Things I LOVE (in no particular order): my boyfriend,  my cat Louie, macaroons, home design, reading, wasting hours learning about random things on the internet, crafts, friends, wine, vintage, milk glass, cooking, family, sewing, rain with the sun still shining, fresh clean sheets, and laughing. I'm always laughing.

Things I could live without: mushrooms, dust, poison ivy.
